For me, one recent example of this approach at work is the announcement of The Building Block in Sligo. It has become a new focal point for business creativity in Sligo, the North-West and Border region – and beyond.
The Building Block is already creating a business hub movement next to the Garavogue river, quite symbolic as heart of the region, with increasing interest across many circles.
The potential is enormous – small and medium enterprise to multinational investment and collaboration, with knock-on effects across the community.
This is exactly the sort of local leadership across industry, government, public sector and academia that wins jobs – it’s making a difference.
It’s all about the vision, strategy & creative collaboration.
At IDA Ireland, the team are on a mission to drive increased Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) across multiple regions in Ireland. It is important on many levels from a national and global perspective.
This is a complex, relevant mission with economic, social, academic impact that we are driving with passion and focus.
In a perfect world, we would like to see large companies landing in every region across the country.
However, we can’t be all things for all people, and we must focus on our strengths and deploy economies of scale.
Success is predicated on a big, relevant vision – collaborative hubs, high quality infrastructure, advanced property and manufacturing solutions, globally relevant sectors/clusters with academia supporting talent, indigenous business, smes & multi-nationals working together…
Operationally, the vision must be supported by effective strategy/prioritization – and creative collaboration and investment across industry, government, public sector and academia.
……A complex landscape, with many agendas.
Easy, right? Not. (But, that’s the fun of it, isn’t it?).
I’ve led collaborative teams and diverse stakeholders many times in my career – and had my share of failure and success.
When it works – it is inspiring and powerful – and the sky is the limit.
We are beginning to foster an element of success – exciting to see, and much more to do.
We will build on our success, and integrate a growing team displaying interest to make a difference.
